The specialty box office saw subdued results this weekend as adults favored wide players Gravity and Captain Phillips.
British film Romeo & Juliet, from an adapted script by Downtown Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, quickly fizzled, grossing $509,000 from 461 theaters for a dismal location average of $1,104.
The latest adaptation of William Shakespeare's play stars Hailee Steinfeld and British actor Douglas Booth as the tragic lovers, with Carlo Carlei directing.

Another new high-profile offering doing tepid theatrical business was Randy Moore's Escape From Tomorrow, shot without permission at the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland. The movie, distributed by the Producers Distribution Agency, grossed $66,112 from 30 theaters for a location average of $2,204.
Escape From Tomorrow is hoping to make up ground on VOD, but initial numbers weren't available.
Urban drama The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete likewise struggled. Directed by George Tillman, Jr., the movie grossed $260,000 from 147 theaters for a location average of $1,769 despite stars Anthony Mackie, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Jennifer Hudson.
Lionsgate is distributing the coming-of-age story, about two inner-city youths, played by Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dizon, who are left to fend from themselves in New York City when their mothers are taken away by authorities.
Sundance title We Are What We Are, from director Jim Mickle, debuted to $47,061 from 13 theaters for a location average of $1,217. Entertainment One is distributing the film in the U.S.
